The All India Management Association, an apex body of management profession in India, has been working actively in the space of procurement and contract management. Apart from offering courses in procurement, contract management and Public Private Partnership, iIt has also undertaken several initiatives in terms of knowledge exchange in these areas. The Global Procurement Summit is one such endeavour of AIMA, wherein, in the last few years it has been providing a platform for various stakeholders to come forward and deliberate on various issues regarding procurement and related areas and share their experiences and the best practices followed in their organisations or countries. The summit provides a platform for discussion and exchange of ideas between senior officials engaged in public procurement at central and state public entities and the key bidding communities represented by manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, and consultants on the one hand and international experts on the other hand. It was held in partnership with the Ministry of Finance, Government of India and the World Bank. Other partners included Asian Development Bank, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, FIDIC and United Nations Industrial Development Organisation and GAIL.
During the submit various contemporary issues related to procurement are deliberated and important recommendations are suggested by the eminent experts of various plenary sessions. These recommendations are documented in form of annual report and submitted to all important stakeholders for further planning.
It helps to guide forward-looking companies to take the necessary steps towards completely reimagining the procurement function while enhancing the value they deliver. Investing in stronger, future-ready practices and capabilities will pay off in the long term, and help organisations emerge stronger and better equipped for the future. Over the past seven years, Global Procurement Summit has been attended by delegates from the procurement fraternity across the globe. The growing participation of international experts, strategy creators, and professionals from India and abroad itself demonstrate the level of commitment of this event.
The Summit is an important initiative for developing procurement expertise. It is an excellent forum for peer-to-peer learning and for identifying the latest trends and best practices in procurement management. Such global summits are an important tool for the professionalisation of procurement function in view of massive expenditure planned on infrastructure and social sectors. It is heartening to witness the growth of Global Procurement Summit over the years, and its success is not just noticed in India but in other parts of the world. It is also great to see the ownership and support of the event from both public and private organizations both Indian and international, which is unique.
