The Association of Indian Universities (AIU), established in 1925 and renamed in 1973, is the apex representative body of Indian universities and higher education institutions. With 1055 Indian members and 19 international associate members, AIU has the largest university network globally after the Association of Commonwealth Universities. It includes all university types—central, state, private, deemed, open, and institutions of national importance. AIU serves as a research-based policy advisory body to the Ministry of Education and acts as a think tank, promoting Indian higher education globally through policy advocacy, capacity building, international collaboration, and support for academics, research, sports, and culture.
