Mr Nikhil Sawhney is the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Triveni Turbine Limited and a Director with Triveni Engineering and Industries Limited and GE Triveni Limited. The Companies occupy leadership positions in their respective businesses of sugar manufacturing and engineered-to-order mechanical equipment spanning 14 manufacturing locations in India.
In June 2015, Nikhil was voted one of India’s forty ‘hottest’ business leaders under 40 years of age by The Economic Times, India’s leading financial daily. Nikhil has also been awarded the Udyog Ratna by the Institute of Economic Studies. Nikhil has a Bachelors degree in Arts and a Masters degree in Arts from Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge, and a Masters degree in Business Administration from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Nikhil resides in New Delhi with his wife Zia and their son Zahan.
Nikhil follows a principle of responsible corporate citizenry and has initiated several community initiatives including rural community-based self-help programs as well as the Sustainable Sugarcane Initiative covering 250,000 of Triveni’s sugarcane farmers. Nikhil has helped found the CII-Triveni Water Institute and is an active trustee of the Tirath Ram Shah Charitable Hospital and the Emmanuel College India Trust, as well as a Fellow of the Aspen Institute of India and the Aspen Global Leadership Network. Nikhil is also the Treasurer of the All India Management Association (AIMA) and a member of the Board of Governors of IIM Calcutta. Nikhil is a part of the India-UK and India-Israel CEO Forums constituted by the Government. Nikhil is also Co-Chair of the CII National Committee on Capital Goods and Engineering.
In sugar manufacturing, Triveni Engineering is one of the leading manufacturers of sugar with 7 operating factories integrated with facilities for the co-generation of power and the distillation of alcohol. The engineering businesses of Triveni also occupy market leadership positions in the manufacture of industrial steam turbines, gears and gearboxes, and water and wastewater treatment packages and solutions.
Triveni Turbine Limited is the preeminent manufacturer of industrial steam turbines in India, with a consistent market share of over fifty percent. The company sells over a 1000 MW of industrial turbines per annum and has an installed base of over three thousand installations in over 50 countries. The customer base includes defense, process industries, and thermal and renewable energy producers. Triveni Turbine has a majority in an exclusive global joint venture with General Electric for manufacturing industrial steam turbines between 30 and 100MW.
