President Pranab Mukherjee presents AIMA Managing India Awards 2013
~ Mukesh Ambani is the Entrepreneur of the Decade~

New Delhi, 11 April, 2013: All India Management Association (AIMA), the apex body of Indian management professionals, conferred the Managing India Awards 2013 today at Taj Palace, New Delhi. The awards celebrated achievements of outstanding companies, entrepreneurs and managers who have made salutary contribution to nation building.

President of India, Pranab Mukherjee was the Chief Guest on the occasion and gave away the awards at a glittering ceremony.

Congratulating AIMA for its endeavours President Mukherjee said, “Our country needs visionary Business Leaders  to manage India’s transition to a knowledge economy and Indian Industry should act as a catalyst for the growth process.  AIMA awardees exemplify this conviction and I congratulate all for their contribution and  hope these winners will ignite the minds of  other managers.”

President also congratulated AIMA for  setting up Centre for Skill Development and Training to meet  support India’s  growing skill needs.

Bhaskar Bhat, Managing Director, Titan Industries attributed his success to the people whose aims and aspirations have led to transformation of Titan from a watchmaker to jeweler to eyewear specialist and now a maker of lifestyle products. He further added, “It’s Titan’s desire to be a healthy, wealthy, sharing, caring, clean and green company that is the envy of global companies.”

Hari S Bhartia, Co-Chairman & Founder, Jubilant Bhartia Group thanked AIMA, on behalf of the Jubilant Bhartia Group, for presenting this prestigious award. He said that Indian companies had the potential to be on par with the global giants in both scale and brand recognition. “Our strategy has always been ‘Think global and act local’ and it has proved to be highly beneficial,“ he added.

Chairman & Co-Founder, Jubilant Bhartia Group Shyam S Bhartia, described his mantra of success for young entrepreneurs saying, “If you strongly believe in your plan, work hard to get together a cohesive and motivated team to crystallize your plan, go ahead and implement it without fear of failures.”

Dr Prannoy Roy, Executive Co-Chairperson and Editor-in-Chief, NDTV said, “This award means a great deal to me. I seldom accept awards but this is special as it comes from a most respected body of Indian industry.” Speaking on the significant role played by the media in nation building he said, “Media has made politicians answerable to the people of India. Indian media has also brought information to the voters of India - on development or lack of it on issues that affect their lives and on the scams and corruption in decision making. All this is making our country a more vibrant and informed democracy.”

Pawan Munjal, Managing Director and CEO, Hero MotoCorp Ltd, emphasized that to be a business leader one has to believe in the power of people and to understand the importance of humility. He added “My biggest strength has been the large pool of talented people within the company. Over the years, I have personally chosen, nurtured and empowered many of them to take up leadership roles within the company. “

BP Rao, Chairman & Managing Director, BHEL, said, “BHEL has been contributing to nation building endeavors for almost half a century  in line with  Pandit Nehru’s dream of developing indigenous capabilities in heavy electrical equipment and power plant equipment manufacturing. “ He also said, “BHEL manufactured sets have been delivering 75% power in the country.In spite of global slowdown which decelerated overall growth of the country in recent years he is confident of overcoming challenges in the near future. He said “On basis of  our strong technological & manufacturing base, rich experience in Indian conditions, sound management and strong finances we will continue making significant contribution in the fields of energy, industry and infrastructure segments. “

Sanjiv Goenka, Chairman, RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, chaired the eminent jury for the awards.
