New Delhi, September 27th, 2013: All India Management Association (AIMA), the apex body of the management profession, today announced the appointment of its office bearers for 2013-14. Dr. Preetha Reddy, Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd, was elected the new AIMA President by AIMA Council. She is the first woman President of AIMA in its history of 57 years. She succeeds Mr. D. Shivakumar, Past Managing Director, Nokia India Private Limited. Dr. Reddy will be responsible for leading AIMA’s initiatives for the year and creating strategies to support the association’s mission of building management capabilities in the country.

Speaking on her appointment, Dr. Reddy said, “I am pleased to be entrusted with the responsibility to lead the prestigious All India Management Association.” She thanked the outgoing President, Mr D Shivakumar for setting an outstanding example.

Mr H M Nerurkar is the new Senior Vice President of AIMA, a position that was occupied by Dr Reddy last year. Mr Nerurkar was the Vice President during 2012-13. Mr Firdose Vandrewala joins the ranks of AIMA office bearers as Vice President. Mr P Dwarkanath continues as the Treasurer.

Dr. Preetha Reddy heads the leading private sector healthcare services provider in India, which is among Asia’s largest healthcare networks. Since inception in 1983, Apollo Hospitals has served more than 20 million patients. Inspired and guided by her father, Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, the visionary pioneer of corporatized healthcare in India, she had joined Apollo Hospitals as Joint Managing Director in 1989 and five years later, she became the Managing Director of the company. Recently, with an aim to harness the growing mobile penetration in India, Dr. Reddy initiated partnerships with telecom providers to offer mobile health solutions. These path breaking m-health partnerships are set to transform the way healthcare is delivered to the citizens of India and will accelerate Apollo Hospitals’ vision of touching billion lives. She has been at the forefront of working for the less fortunate and has set up an inspiring example in the form of SACHi (Save a Child's Heart Initiative) - an endeavour to treat underprivileged children with congenital heart diseases. Under the auspices of SACHi, over 5000 cardiac surgeries have been performed and over 50,000 underprivileged children have been screened for cardiac ailments.

She has been working with multiple industry bodies and the Government of India to advance policy decisions on important healthcare issues. In 2009, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, invited her to join the Indo-U.S. and Indo-Malaysia CEOs Forums, think-tanks created to strengthen bilateral cooperation and trade.

Dr. Reddy is also a Founding Member of the National Quality Council, which provides the guidelines on minimum quality standards to Indian Hospitals. In addition to being an Executive Member on the Board of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise, she is a Member of the Wipro Business Leadership Council, a Governing Board Member of XLRI Jamshedpur, and she is also on the Board of the Superbrand India Council.

Mr. H. M. Nerurkar, Senior Vice President, AIMA


Mr. Hemant M Nerurkar is the Managing Director at Tata Steel Limited. He obtained his B. Tech Degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the College of Engineering Pune and joined Tata Steel in February 1982.  He became the Executive Director on the Board of Tata Steel in April 2009 and on 1st October 2009, took over as the Managing Director with the -charge of India and South East Asia Operations.

Mr. Nerukar is also the President of the Tata Steel Rural Development Society. His talent has been recognised in the form of several awards – National Metallurgist (Ferrous Metallurgy) Award in 1987, Visveswaraya Award in 1988, SAIL Gold Medal in 1989, Steel 80s Award in 1990, SMS Demag Excellence Award in 2002 and Tata Gold Medal in 2004 – all coveted awards bestowed by the Indian Institute of Metals.

Mr. Firdose Vandrevala, Vice President, AIMA

Mr. Firdose Vandrevala (Chairman, Hirco Developments) is a graduated from IIT Kharagpur and holds a PGDBM from XLRI. Mr. Vendrevala has also participated in executive training programs at both Harvard and INSEAD. He has worked in the Steel, Power, Telecommunications and Real Estate sectors, with illustrious organizations such as Tata Group, Motorola and Hirco. Covering all functions of the business value chain such as procurement, planning, production, sales, marketing, project management, he has taken on significant leadership responsibilities.

Mr. Vandrevala is also the Chairman of the National Real Estate Committee and committee member of the Climate Change Council and Urbanization and Future Cities Council of the CII. He is a Past President and trustee of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of India.

Mr. P. Dwarkanath, Treasurer, AIMA

Mr. P. Dwarakanath is the Director – Group Human Capital of Max India Ltd, a conglomerate with consolidated revenue of more than $2bn and having business interests primarily in the insurance and healthcare space. Mr. Dwarakanath is a Bachelor of Science, L.L.B. and holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management with specialization in Personnel Management & Industrial Relations.

He brings a rich and varied experience of over 41 years out of which he has spent 27 years in GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Consumer Healthcare Ltd.
