Bangalore, February 5, 2013: All India Management Association (AIMA) organized the 7th edition of its annual National Brand Summit here in Bangalore today. The theme of this year's summit was "Challenges of Rebuilding Brand India."
Delivering the keynote address Mr. Bhaskar Bhat, Managing Director, Titan Industries Ltd. said, "A brand is the perception of an entity and is an information bridge between the entity and the target audience. In India, a brand image is the post-purchase perception of the customer; it is reality that drives this perception. Rebuilding brand India is not merely about spending money on advertising and promotional campaigns. Country perceptions also depend on which point of view you are coming from. From socialism to software genius, the perception of India has constantly evolved." He also quoted the most recent interpretation of India by the Central Intelligence Agency, being "Despite pressing problems such as significant overpopulation and environmental degradation, extreme poverty and corruption, the rapid economic development is fuelling India's growth into the future." Mr. Bhat concluded with the powerful statement, "We must believe in it ourselves as citizens of a great nation – Our people are our strength."
Mr. D Shivakumar, President, AIMA and Sr. Vice President, Nokia for India, Middle East & Africa, echoed the sentiment, saying, "Brand India has immense potential. The responsibility of building brand India is the collective one that involves the Government, the corporate sector, the public institutions, media, society at large and individual in particular. Each of us has a critical role to play and we should take that responsibility seriously."
Ms. Meera Harish, Summit Chairperson, Vice President - Sales & Marketing, Tata Coffee Ltd. added, "India's brand will be created by what we, Indians are and by what we do. Brand India cannot be an advertising slogan. It has to be a nation lit up by a billion dreams and actions. India is what we bring to it."

The first session of the day focused on strategies and Business models which need to be adopted by Indian Companies to build global brands.
The summit evaluated the image of brand India and its evolution over the years. Sharing his thoughts on the values that Corporate India needs to imbibe, Mr. R Mukundan, Managing Director, Tata Chemicals, said "Brand India' has today evolved into a much more contemporary and vibrant, inclusive and sustainable image. Driven by global business that have successfully managed to add a unique edge to their products and services have now become symbolic with the new India. From innovative products to customized services and inclusive and sustainable solutions, Indian businesses are creating unique brand for India."
The role of Indian media and entertainment companies in shaping the country's global brand image was explored by distinguished names in the industry, in the second session of the day. Popular names like Ms. Vasundhara Das, Singer, Songwriter, Composer, Actress & Entrepreneur and Mr. Harsha Bhogle, Indian Cricket Commentator debated on this theme. Corporate bigwig Mr. Santosh Desai, MD & CEO, Futurebrands India Ltd. was also a part of this esteemed panel.
Mr. Harsha Bhogle, Indian Cricket Commentator commented, "The inherent power of sport is enormous. It is your escape into the real world. The way you play sport displays your cultural root. People use sport as image building tool."
Ms. Vasundhara Das, Singer, Songwriter, Composer, Actress & Entrepreneur added, "We as Indians, are at a time in history where we as individuals, part of a larger population- define how the world views us a nation. The way we conduct ourselves, the way we take pride in our culture and heritage, the way we forge new paths into the future taking our unique past with us- this is what will define how the world will perceive us in the years to come."
The ambitious youth of the country are the frontrunners in taking the Brand India to the next level. The need for young India to develop a global perspective and equipped themselves to win at international levels was deliberated by a panel of experts in the last interactive session of the day.
The Summit witnessed Branding Gurus, Corporate Heads and distinguished personalities from media & Entertainment discuss and debate the challenge faced by the Industry in Rebuilding brand India to seek Global Leadership. The 7th leg of the Brand Summit saw a participation of over 250 delegates, which included representatives from the corporate world, Government, entertainment industry and students.
