Times of India ND 4.08.2014 Education Times P-5 SKILL SUMMIT
A two-day summit on skill development was organized by the All India Management Association in partnership with the National Skills Development Council on July 31 and August 1. The theme of the summit was bridging the world of work and education: national occupational standards.
Dilip Chenoy, CEO and managing director, NSDC, stressed that India had to develop national occupational standards (NOS) for each type of skill which would be necessary for aligning education and training with the needs of the employers. Chenoy suggested a credit-based skilling and certification framework, where credits could be awarded for attending a mix of learning programmes and not just for a single designated programme. Deliberations on several issues concerning the linking of education with employment and developing occupational standards took place during the summit.
