AIMA organised a workshop on 'Plagiarism and Reference Management Tools' on 6-7 August 2015 at New Delhi. The main objective of the workshop was to get an understanding of the issues surrounding plagiarism and to enhance academic/research writing.

Mr. Manoj Kumar K, Scientist –D INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar presented an overview of plagiarism where he discussed about research ethics and general principals. Mr. Sanjeev K. Sunny demonstrated the features and functionalities of Mendeley and Zotero. There was also a demonstration session of Turnitin, iThenticate and EndNote-Reference Management Software of Thomson Reuters. About 33 participants attended the workshop which was very well received.

About the Programme

Plagiarism is considered as a form of misconduct in scholarly communications. You, as a researcher, must have heard about it; or you might know what it is. However, there exists ambiguity about it in academic community. When does plagiarism occur? Is there any established percentage to determine when plagiarism has taken place? Is there a rule of thumb to determine plagiarism? Are there different types of it? What may be the consequences if plagiarism is detected? How to avoid it? This workshop aims to address these types of questions.

Use of reference manager can be a powerful addition to your research activities. Mendeley is a free Reference Manager and Academic Social Network that can assist you in managing references, research papers (PDFs), annotating your PDFs, taking searchable notes, citing while you are writing, automatically creating bibliographies, syncing your account between multiple computers, collaborating, and discovering new research in fields of interest.

Workshop on Plagiarism and Reference Management using Mendeley

AIMA Library conducted a workshop "Plagiarism and Reference Management using Mendeley" on 7th November 2014. There was an overwhelming response from Research Scholars of various Management Institutes ,Scientific Research Institutes and higher education institutes participated in the workshop. The workshop imparted training on some of the latest tools and techniques to avoid Plagiarism and also use of Mandeley a free reference tool.. Resource persons for the workshop were from the Jawahar lal Nehru University(JNU), New Delhi.

The objectives of this workshop are to make you learn:
1) What is plagiarism and how to avoid it?
2) What are the different styles of referencing?
3) How Mendeley can help in managing references?
4) How to get Mendeley working on your computer?
5) How to add and manage research papers in your Mendeley Library?
6) How to import references and add associated paper to your library?
7) How to highlight and take notes? How to use searchable notes?
8) How to cite and create bibliographies while you write?
