Background
Infrastructure is considered an engine for economic growth. Procurement activities are critical to every organization due to their contribution to the financial success of a business. Procurement strategies ensure infrastructure delivery to maximize value generation for society as a whole. A decade back, public procurement was neither recognized as a separate vertical nor considered a strategic function within the public sector. It is only with the development of international trade rules, public procurement has emerged as a vital part of global initiatives to craft a new economic world order.
In spite of differences in approach, both the private and public sectors have a common goal of procurement with a focus on efficiency, transparency, and sustainability. On account of its vulnerability, due to the dynamic environment, corruption and cost fluctuations, the procurement activities must be subject to continuous reforms and in compliance with emerging worldwide best practices. Besides this, due to the magnitude of spending involved and procurement encompassing both political and economic dimensions, it is very important to reimagine, strategies and strengthen the function of procurement for a promising future. This can be done by taking some innovative steps by the involvement of Private partnerships, reducing delays and disputes in contracting, working on resilient Supply Chains and application of technology in procurement, etc.
After the remarkable achievement of the Global Procurement Summit in the past few years, with delegates participating in the summit from various nationalities, AIMA in partnership with the Government of India and Bank announces Global Procurement Summit 2023, GPS 2023 scheduled 19-20 at New Delhi. The Summit will bring together the most senior global and regional procurement community to through insight into the key areas required to improvise in order to strengthen Procurement as a key function and hence contribute towards economic development.
The summit is expected to be attended by over 300 delegates from government offices, corporates, consultants, and regulators from India and abroad. The deliberations will be done by the experts in the area pf procurement from international organizations covering countries like the USA, European Union, UK, and South Asian Countries etc.
Targeting the senior officials engaged in public procurement at central and state public entities, private sector purchases and critical bidding communities (represented by manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, and consultants), the key objective of the Global Procurement Summit 2023 is to explore how procurement can contribute towards infrastructure development, how with application of technology and introducing procurement reforms, efforts have been made to modernise procurement and to study the effect of tools like PPP on Infrastructure development.
